GMPC is a GTK2 frontend for Music Player Daemon. It is released under the GNU General Public License and is free software. It is designed to be lightweight and easy to use, while providing full access to all of MPD's features. Users are presented with several different methods to browse through their music. It can be extended by plugins, of which many are available. GMPC is the oldest maintained Graphical client for MPD. The project was started in 2003 and been under constant development ever since.
"GMPC is a fully featured audio player client that has the ability to do most anything a fully featured audio player like Amarok and Songbird can do, minus the resources."

"My verdict on this application: just WOW! I can't stop saying that ever since I started using it (just about when I started writing this post)"
--WebUpd8
"Nowadays, Gmpc is my full-featured app AND my light app of choice. Give it a try if you’ve
never used mpd or gmpc, or install it again if you didn’t like it the first time. Sure you’ll keep it."
--Elric
"I have recently finished setting up MPD on an old ‘slug’. Finally my gigabytes of music are free to play in their full glory through the speakers in my living room! I use GMPC on my Ubuntu laptop to select songs at my whim."
--Barry Broom
"last but not least, many thanks for writing gmpc. it's been years that something outside the openbsd src tree (where i'm obviously biased) has impressed me that much."
